Second leg of my project Path to Triglav, hike on Boč.
The next adventure in the hiking series, Path to Triglav, took me to another nearby hill. This time, my destination was Boč, which peaks at 978 meters . After about a half-hour drive to Pojčane and on to the Boč mountain hut, my friend and I started the ascent in winter conditions. It caught us by surprise, so we had to change our plan a bit later in the day.
The hike started off pretty easy, even though the trail was covered in snow. However, later on, when the gradient began to rise, things got a bit tougher. It became very icy and slippery, so we encountered quite a few problems on some sections. That resulted in a few more minutes of climb than normally.
When we reached the ridge, it became easier, and the tower at the top was already in our sights. All the trouble was worth it when we climbed the tower and were rewarded with fantastic views of the surrounding forests.
After soaking in the views, we had to decide what to do about our descent. There were two options: the first was to go down the same way we ascended and risk many falls and possibly an injury, or take the longer route on the road, which was 5 kilometers longer and would take at least 45 minutes more.
We opted for the latter. Safety first! In the end, it was really fun going through the forest by the logging areas. That smell of fresh wood! Finally, we made it all the way back to where we started at the mountain hut.
It was a nice winter hike with a valuable lesson learned: always bring spikes with you, even if you don’t anticipate those kinds of conditions. We finished with a well-deserved Cedevita and goulash at the hut. On to the next one!
